The primary mission of this program is to prepare students for leadership roles in higher education student affairs. Integrating theory and practice, maintaining strong interdisciplinary relationships, fostering high quality research, and sponsoring activities that enhance the development of professionals are high priorities of the program.

"Small class sizes encouraged sharing of experiences and ideas." –Marianne Shreck'05

Comments from our faculty

"A major feature of our program is the opportunity for students to consider practicum experiences at one of the 15 higher education institutions in our metropolitan area.  These institutions represent very different types of environments: public and private, large and small, 2 year and 4 year, residential and commuter, as well as institutions identified as religiously affiliated, historically black, or progressive"

Joanne Risacher, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership - Student Affairs in Higher Education Program.

Comments from our students

"The SAHE program at Wright State provided me with both an excellent foundation in student development theory and well-designed opportunities to put this theory into practice. In addition, the collaborative and supportive faculty created professional connections that will sustain me through my career as a practitioner."

-Brian Borchers, 2007

"The SAHE program allowed me to make a career change with ease."

-Charlisha Rankin, 2006

"The SAHE program gave me the opportunity to gain hands-on experiences. These experiences allowed me to see several different areas within student affairs and make professional connections. They also gave me valuable experience that has helped shape me as a student affairs professional."

-Michelle Crawford, 2006

"As a non-traditional student working on a career change after my retirement, I felt very welcome in the SAHE program - both by the professors as well as the other students."
–Jim Ginzer, 2005

"I enjoyed the collaboration and cooperation with other educational institutions in the Miami Valley and the opportunity for students from diverse and eclectic backgrounds to come together and learn about the history, culture, and inner workings of student affairs in higher education."

Michael Albright, 2004
