Preparing professionals to meet the educational and human services needs of a diverse, democratic society.

We believe:

Visions, Goals, Strategies, Objectives 1.1.3

VISION ONE 1.1.3.1

The College of Education and Human Services will design programs that exemplify best practices and provide quality learning experiences.

I Goal

The faculty will design professional programs that exemplify best practices.

Strategy A

Adhere to Ohio statutes and standards of accrediting bodies, professional organizations and learned societies.


Objectives

1. Maintain appropriate accreditation standards with NCA, NCATE, CACREP, CORE.

2. Meet state standards for licensure.

Strategy B

Monitor our students’ performance on meeting professional requirements.

Objectives

1. Students pass examinations for professional credentialing.

2. Identify deficits in programs within three years and take steps to correct deficiencies.

Strategy C

Best practices will be determined through faculty experience.

Objectives

1. Faculty will keep abreast of best practice in their disciplines through examination and review of current literature and research, participation in scholarly activities, and attendance at professional conferences.

2. Department chairs will encourage faculty sharing of ideas and discussion of best practice.

II Goal

The College will use its resources to provide quality learning experiences for its students.

Strategy A

Describe facilities (environment) and equipment needed to implement best teaching.

Objectives

1. Form a committee to evaluate the teaching needs of our faculty.

2. During 1997-1998, a survey will be conducted of all faculty to determine their facilities and equipment needs for providing quality teaching.

Strategy B

Provide learning experiences to students that are appropriate to the professional and consistent with best practices.

Objective

1. Use annual faculty evaluation to improve instruction.

Strategy C

Hire competent faculty and staff.

Objective

1. Annually evaluate personnel and program needs and request appropriate resources.

III Goal

Consistent with the university’s strategic plan, the operational structure of CEHS will be examined for possible restructuring.

Strategy A

An ad hoc committee, chaired by the Dean and consisting of Department Chairs, dpd Director, Office of Student Services Manager, Business Manager, one faculty member from each department, and two unclassified staff, will study the current structure of CEHS and make appropriate recommendations.

Objectives

1. By the end of the 1997-1998 academic year, the ad hoc committee will complete work.

2. Implementation of recommendations for restructuring will occur on July 1, 1998.

VISION TWO 1.1.3.2

CEHS will create effective technological environments that will support the teaching, learning, and achievements of students, faculty and staff.

I Goal

CEHS will engage in a systematic planning process to provide and ensure technologically-rich teaching and learning environments.

Strategy A

CEHS will have a standing technology committee.

Objectives

1. CEHS will develop a technology plan.

2. The technology plan will be approved by the CEHS faculty senate by Fall, 1997.

Strategy B

CEHS will implement a technology plan.

Objective

1. On an annual basis, the technology plan will be reviewed and updated by the CEHS technology committee.

II Goal

CEHS will engage in a resource development process to finance the technology plan.

Strategy A

CEHS will allocate internal funds to support technology needs of students, faculty and staff.

Objective

1. CEHS will create a budget to meet needs identified by the technology plan in such a way that the College can achieve its technology goals over a three year period (1997-2000).

Strategy B

CEHS will collaborate with other WSU units to support the technology needs of students, faculty and staff.

Objective

1. CEHS will develop a plan during 1997-1998 in collaboration with other WSU units (i.e. Media Services, Center for Teaching and Learning, libraries, TV Center, etc.) so that CEHS does not unnecessarily duplicate efforts and utilizes available university resources to our greatest advantage.

Strategy C

CEHS will pursue external support for technology infusion across the college.

Objective

1. Each unit of CEHS will develop a plan by Fall 1998 that will identify sources of funding and will actively seek external support for the technology needs of our programs and services.


VISION THREE 1.1.3.3

CEHS will promote simultaneous renewal and enhance our presence, representation and effectiveness in the community through partnerships and networks.

I Goal

CEHS will develop and maintain networks of public schools and human service agencies to facilitate continuing faculty and staff professional development.

Strategy A

Through dpd, CEHS will maintain a network of public schools and agencies.

Objectives

1. ED LINK-12 will annually review and make recommendations regarding the size, scope and structure of network operations.

2. Possible expansion of network activities will be examined, planned, and implemented by the year 2000.

II Goal

CEHS will continue our participation in a select group of local and national partnership initiatives, such as our partner schools, NNER, Holmes Partnership, Council of Great City Schools, TECSCU, NCATE, and AACTE.

Strategy A

CEHS will periodically examine our participation in partnership initiatives.

Objectives

1. CEHS will make a decision whether to continue our participation in NNER by 1999.

2. CEHS will determine continuation in partnership initiatives on a scheduled basis.

III Goal

CEHS will foster a unique partnership initiative with the Dayton Public Schools to assist them in achieving their mission and goals.


Strategy A

CEHS will collaborate with Dayton Public Schools to assist them in reaching their stated mission and goals.

Objectives

1. CEHS will hire a partnership coordinator to facilitate partnership activities primarily with the Dayton Public Schools by July 1997.

2. CEHS will hire an Associate Dean who will be charged with the mission of supervising the College’s linkages with the Dayton Public Schools by January, 1998.

3. CEHS will continue to be involved in collaborative projects with DPS as opportunities arise, 1997-2003.

VISION FOUR 1.1.3.4

CEHS personnel will exceed the service needs of our clients.

I Goal

All CEHS faculty and staff will enhance the College environment by providing the best practice to those we serve.

Strategy A

CEHS will conduct an environmental scan of the College’s existing services and the service needs and expectations of current clients.

Objectives

1. Survey targeted groups by Spring, 1998.

2. Develop a service plan by Fall, 1998.

3. Implement service plan within selected areas during 1998-1999.

4. Assess targeted groups by Spring, 1999.

5. Implement changes assessed in 1999 and select additional areas for improvement for 1999-2003.

VISION FIVE 1.1.3.5

CEHS will actively encourage, support, and provide professional development opportunities to foster growth and expertise of our faculty and staff.

I Goal

The CEHS will actively sponsor and support professional development opportunities.


Strategy A

CEHS Department Chairs, Directors and Managers will promote professional development activities within their units.

Objectives

1. Each employee in the College will present an annual professional development plan as part of the performance appraisal process to his/her supervisor.

2. Unit heads will develop plans to provide financial support and release time, when possible, to encourage professional development of faculty and staff.
