Fall 2001 Timeline for Continuing NCATE Visits

Actions
December 1999 NCATE sends to the institution the package of materials necessary to prepare for the continuing accreditation visit.
September 1, 2000 The institution returns to NCATE the updated form, "Intent to Proceed with the Continuing Accreditation Visit."
September 1, 2000 The institution submits to NCATE the "Date Preference Form" with the preferred dates for the on-site visit.
September 15, 2000 The institution submits to NCATE the program review documents and interim five-year reports as indicated on the "Status of Program Reviews" report. (Program Reviews and interim reports are not required if the institution is located in a partnership state in which the submission of program reviews is optional.)
February 2001 NCATE sends the first critiques of program reviews to the institution.
March-May 2001 (6 mo. prior to visit) The institution publishes announcements of the upcoming visit in local news media to invite third-party testimony.

 

April 15, 2001 The institution submits to NCATE rejoinders to program reviews. (NOTE: Submission of rejoinders is optional.)
May/June 2001

NCATE sends to the institution the names and addresses of the assigned BOE team members who will conduct the on-site review.

July-September 2001 (2-3 mo. prior to visit) NCATE sends a copy of the third-party testimony to the institution for comment.

August 2001 NCATE sends critiques of program review rejoinders to the institution.
August/September 2001

NCATE sends the "Summary of Program Reviews" to the institution; it should be available to the team in the exhibit room. (This summary may be updated after additional rejoinder responses are received).

60 days prior to the visit The institution submits two copies of its continuing accreditation report and catalogs to NCATE. The report and catalogs are also sent to each BOE team member, the state consultant, and other state representatives.
30 to 60 days prior to visit The previsit by the team chair is conducted.
Scheduled Visit (September-December) The BOE team conducts the on-site review.

Within 30 days after the visit The BOE report is submitted to NCATE by the team chair. Two copies are forwarded to the unit head; copies are also sent to the state agency if the institution is located in a partnership state.
March/April 2002 The institution's continuing accreditation status is determined by NCATE's Unit Accreditation Board.
Within two weeks after the UAB meeting NCATE mails action letters and reports of the accreditation decision to the president of the institution, the unit head, and the state agency if the institution is located in a partnership state.
One month later Unless a decision is being appealed, NCATE mails public disclosure notices to the state education agency, NEA and AFT state affiliates, and state school board association.
